DIY: Dream Wedding
Congratulations! You’ve just made one of the biggest decisions in your life: Getting married. As a little girl you’ve dreamed of this day, walking down the aisle lined with flowers and surrounded by smiling, happy people.
Other people have made women’s dream weddings their business. Wedding planners have been around for a while now, and they help to arrange the best day of your life. But planning your own dream wedding can be fun and worth the effort. It can be tiring and frustrating at times, but the results will be a beautiful culmination to the beginning of your new life together.
There are a lot of things that need to be prepared before the day itself, so it pays to be organized. Here’s a short DIY list for you.
Have a discussion with your fiancé when you begin planning for your altar date. He is, after all, an important part of this wedding. Ask him how he imagines the wedding will turn out, and if he has any special ideas of his own. Will this be a garden setting, or a traditional church wedding? Should it be at sunrise, or sunset? Will there be a reception afterwards, and where will it be held? Who else will be participating or is expected to participate in the wedding?
Create a timeline. When do you expect to finish which task? This will help to simplify the actions that you need to take before the wedding itself.
Talk about your finances: How much do you both intend to spend, who will be footing which bill, and so on and so forth. It is important to clarify money matters so it won’t become an issue in the future.
Don’t forget to write this all down! Each time you have an idea, or a new contact make sure to write it all down in a handy notebook. Having a notebook will keep you organized, and will help you tremendously.
When you’ve both decided on what kind of wedding you both want, you can then focus on a venue for the wedding. Compare prices, and double check for hidden costs. Try to get the best deal from them, and see if you can get something a little extra. Once you’ve decided on the perfect location, make sure to book early. Certain venues are very popular, and slots are hard to come by at times.
Search for a reliable florist. Which wedding has not been graced with flowers? Visit him at his shop, and he should be more than happy to show you his own arrangements. Cultivate a friendship, if you can. You might be able to convey your ideas to him more easily this way.
Shop around for a caterer for the wedding reception. Listen to friends’ recommendations; better still, if you’re at an event and you like the food, ask the servers if they could give you the caterer’s business card. When you speak with them, they should be able to provide you with possible menus.
The wedding cake is typically made by another group of people. Caterers normally keep a list of their own, and you might want to ask for recommendations. Some stores keep online galleries, and you might get more ideas of your own while going through them.
The wedding gown should be a breeze. There a lot of shops that offer wedding gowns, and some are downright inexpensive without being less pretty. If you’re having one custom made, remember to have your fitting at least a month ahead. Coordinated attires for the bridesmaids and groomsmen should be taken care of at this time as well.
Once you’ve finalized the external aspects of your wedding you should now have more time to focus on the little details that you and your fiancé want.
The lovely part of organizing your own wedding is that your friends can participate even before the altar date itself. There will always be certain things that they will be glad to assist you with, just ask them.
Remember, this is your day. Don’t forget to enjoy it! << Previous Article || Next Article >>
