Las Vegas wedding: What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?

Who would be able to imagine a wedding reception party without a wedding cake? Maybe other religions don’t mind not having a cake on their wedding parties but usually a wedding cake will be one of most “spotlit” items of the festivity.

Traditional wedding cakes are pristine white and are topped with the bride and the groom wearing their wedding outfits together. Though there may still be some who would prefer their cakes to be done that way, most likely there would be some who would rather have unique wedding cakes.

Giddy as those who agree to this sentiment, here is what you should do to have your cake unique and yet still appropriate a wedding cake, because uniqueness can also translate to weirdness.

Do your assignment.

No matter how cliché-ish it may sound, it’s still the best way to do it. Research your way to your preferred unique wedding cake. Do you want it to be hilarious, safari-worthy, or something that screams your coupledom. It’s your call and your BUDGET’s too, of course!

Here are some suggestions while you are at the stage of contemplating for the design:

- If you two have met at work why not incorporate something from your similar professional life. If you two are both in the medical field, no we don’t suggest a bloody cake, your might like your cake to have that Hippocrates symbol. No? Or if you two are both vets or safari aficionados, how about having wed animals as cake toppers?

- If you would like a Hawaiian theme but would still love to have a wedding cake that’s pleasantly unique, a layer cake with straw skirt textured icing might be a good idea. If it’s too much to handle, glazing a simple cake with lei might be nice, right?

- If you prefer a Sahara theme for your wedding, a mocha cake with a recently sand-stormed texture might make your dream wedding cake come true.

Ask the Wedding Cake Pro.

This part of the unique wedding cake endeavor will be easier if you have some glam friends that will lend you their contact lists or if you’re a Net savvy and you won’t mind saving a list of all your potential cake makers by surfing.

Go ask for an appointment. Then, be punctual and arrive well-geared. Well-geared means having some kind of a sketch of the cake design, size, and flavor you would like. Prepare a few questions, too.

Ask for a wedding cake portfolio and references and see if you fancy the designs the cake maker did. Also, if they will have a tasting session, take note of it. Ask regarding the ingredients and if you prefer having fresh flowers on your cake, what’s going to be the set-up? Will you be sending the flowers yourself or will the baker coordinate with your florist? Ask for the ingredients and whatever suggestions the baker can contribute.

Of course, don’t forget how much will the baker charge for all the bothers. How long will it take the cake to be prepared and if he will deliver the cake must be learnt, too.

Do the same thing with the other cake producers on your list and make an informed decision by not rushing things. By the way, you should be doing this about at least 6 months before the wedding if you would really want a lovely wedding cake.

Goodluck with your wedding cake and on your big day too!
